EQUIPMENT TIPS

HOCKEY STICK

  • Tape is optional but helps your skater hold on to and shoot the puck. Ask any of the coaches for assistance in taping your skater's stick.
  • For first time skaters, a straight-blade stick is best to allow the skater to naturally find his or her dominant shooting side.
  • The stick should stand on end to about the skater's eye level (not to forehead) when they do not have skates on, or to the chin when they do have skates on.
  • Coaches' Tip: An adult stick is not recommended. The shaft of the stick is wider and the blade of the stick is angled differently than a youth stick. Avoid simply cutting down an adult stick.

HELMET WITH CAGE

  • Write skater's name on a piece of hockey tape and stick it to the top of the helmet so the coaches know your skater's name.
