PRACTICES AND GAMES: WHAT TO EXPECT

PRACTICES AND GAMES

  • Ice Time: Indoor practices and games are typically held on Saturdays, Sundays and one to two days a week (depending on level of play). Days, times and locations vary week to week.
  • Pond Hockey: Each level will have a weekly outdoor practice where players and their families can have a fun, unstructured skate outside. Held at one of the Bloomington outdoor rinks while the city maintains them (usually late December to late February).
  • Dryland: For Mite 2, 3 and 4 levels, and is on the side of BIG rink 3 where players and coaches can work on shooting and passing.
  • Gym Time: For Mite 3 and 4 levels only, gym space is reserved at various local elementary schools to play games and have fun off the ice. Note: these are not "workouts."

LOCATIONS

Practices and games are predominantly scheduled at BIG and RIA. Ice time may be reserved at other arenas when ice is not available at BIG or RIA.

Parent Expectations

There are a variety of ways that parents can support the players and their coaches:

  • Have your player ready to go on the ice 5 minutes before scheduled start time with full equipment. This usually means arriving at least 20 minutes before the scheduled ice time. Make sure your skater is at practice on time and ready to skate.
  • Support your coaches by reminding your hockey player to listen, follow instructions and put in 100% effort for the entire time on the ice. Always speak positively in front of your player about their coaches and remember they are volunteers who are giving their personal time to provide a positive experience for your hockey player(s).
  • Every player must always have an adult easily accessible within the building. Do not leave your player at the rink without a parent or other responsible adult immediately available.
  • For safety reasons, parents and family members are not allowed on the bench during practices except to quickly assist players with water bottles or injuries.
  • Refrain from distracting your hockey player while they are on the ice with comments or gestures.
